(Never mind crossing over this Highland Road bridge)
HOW TO GET TO GROTON HOUSE FROM THE NORTH
Because of structural damage caused by the May 2006 floods which sent 5000 cubic feet of water rushing down the Ipswich River per second (normal flow 200), some of the bridges (including Highland Road) are still closed. Asbury Street's bridge is also closed as of August 2008 for a four-month reconstruction project.
Competitors coming from the north should ignore previous directions in the Omnibus and on this site. You will need to arrive via Wenham Center.
Recommended Route from the North: From I-95 Southbound, take Route 97 South (exit 53A) through Topsfield Center (where Route 97 bears left). Cross Route 1 (at a traffic light); Continue South on Route 97, it will bear left again towards Beverly; At a flashing yellow light, go left on Cherry Street (flashing overhead light; convenience store and barber shop on right) to Route 1A in Wenham Center. Turn left onto Route 1A, and left again after the church onto Arbor Street, which becomes Highland Street in Hamilton. GHF is 3.5 miles on left.
From Route 1 Southbound: If you are traveling down From Route 1 Southbound, turn left onto Route 97 South towards Beverly (traffic light, yellow house on right, bank and optometrist on left), and follow directions as above (where Route 97 crosses Route 1).
Allow yourself a little extra time, and steer clear of Ipswich. "You can't get here from there."
